AIDC (Alabama Interior Design Coalition) is a not-for-profit, all volunteer organization, whose mission is to provide support for Alabama’s legislation allowing registration of Interior Designers who practice in the State of Alabama. AIDC members include practicing professionals in design firms, independent designers, allied industry professionals, interior design faculty and design students. AIDC exists to inform consumers about Interior Design registration and to protect the legislative safeguards of the profession. It was founded in 1995 by the Alabama Chapters of ASID and IIDA for this purpose.
Participation in the Political Process is an on-going, year-round business necessity. It is imperative that AIDC maintain a visible and vocal presence in Montgomery to safeguard the Practice Act and to continue to move our profession forward.
The Alabama Interior Design Legislation allows Interior Design professionals to distinguish themselves by having the “Registered Interior Design” (RID) credential. This term lets the public know that this individual has been educated in interior design, passed a national licensing exam (NCIDQ) and completes mandated Continuing Education hours every year. It protects the Health, Safety and Welfare of the public to have licensed designers working on projects in Alabama. The law is administered by the Alabama Board for Registered Interior Designers. (ABRID) The board is completely self-supporting and receives no public funding or taxpayer dollars.
The AIDC website and social media platforms provide updates on legislative activity that affects the practice of Interior Design and informs about the ways that you can be involved.
AIDC is funded by membership dues and industry sponsors.
An annual fundraising event, “Night at the Races” held in Birmingham, provides a fun-filled evening of games and fellowship while raising needed funds to continue the AIDC mission.
Annual membership is offered in three categories:
Professional Membership (NCIDQ Certified) – $50.00/year
Non-NCIDQ or Industry Membership – $25.00
Interior Design Students can join and support AIDC for a one-time $10 membership fee which is valid for their entire college career.
